    Intermittent engine check light

I am getting an intermittent engine check light.

Are there any self diagnostics I can run before resorting to a consult unit? Only seems to happen when I give the car a bit of a spirited drive. If I turn off and back on the light will go out and for a while will remain off.

Does anybody have any good posts on the subject, a search for "engine check light" doesn`t really bring up a lot of info.

    Thanks.

    EDIT
Just found the Self Diagnostic using the MIL (Malfunction indicator lamp) in section EC-17 so I will try and figure out how that works. Fortunatly I am not seeing any faults in A/T or ABS.
