    Economical Daily Driver

    Evening all,

I find myself in the ah..inenviable position of having to drive up to 180 miles to/from a client site, and it's banging the crap out of my wallet in fuel terms. Can anyone sugest a small car that I could use for this purpose, to save the Skyline? Needs to seat only me so 2 or 4 door, 80mph on the m-way and ultra frugal on the gogo juice.

I'm thinking Fiesta, Citroen AX (a la Moff), something like that. Cool and condition irrelevant. Cheap is the watchword - as is easy to fix. Any ideas?

I was in a similar situation a few years ago , having to do a 160 mile round trip to work & back everyday.
I bought a 1.5D AX as it was cheap & economical. It used to cruise along the A14 at 80 mph no problem & still give 65/70 mpg.
I'm not particularly tall (5' 9") but have long legs, and it could have done with the seat going back another inch or two.
Build quality was... , well lets just say there wasn't much.
I had to have the injectors replaced, fuel pump, and the sun roof went rusty after a year.
I bought it brand new so it was all covered under warranty.
It never got used in the winter as I was overseas, but I did 60K in 3 years.
I would have thought they would be a bit old now to be reliable if your going to stick alot of miles on it.
Build quality hasn't improved with the newer models. My Mrs has a C3, she drove though a ford ( the wet kind) & the front end fell off!
Have look at Daihatsu. I think Canker has / had one. They're very economical & might be better built.

I do 200 miles a week on average for my work. A Nissan Micra 1.0l 16v does all the shitty driving for me. It's light and economical and above all a piece of piss to fix.
