Hi All,
The 34 GTR is soon to hit 10 years old, meaning no SVA etc, in turn meaning it will theoretically be cheaper to import and register legally for UK roads.
Question is, what do you think this will do to the prices ?

Well hopefully for the non R34 owner it will mean I will be able to afford one - but for the R34 owners out there it might mean a drop in prices , like with the R33
Only time will tell .... and those darn fuel prices!

At first I would of assumed that prices would drop but a few little birds in Japan have been saying that R34 values haven't really been affected by the R35's release.

Well you can get a imported R34 GTR, manual, with 80k klms on the clock, grade 4 condition, in the UK now for 21k,
It costs about 1.5k to get through the SVA, so I dont think there going to drop that much too.
The prices are beginning to drop ........Ive been looking at this R 34 GTR, It's a 1998 model so it should be clear of SVA soon

Firstly the bad news, the 10 year old thing only applies before 1996. ie older than 10, built before 1996, it needs a fog light and MoT. Older than 10 but built after 1996 it needs an SVA. Younger than 10, ie an R34 GTR (they started production in 1998) you need an ESVA, the cost of which seems to be £1k or maybe £2k.
The good news is the cheapest R34 GTR I've seen so far is under £15k, it needed some paint wok on 3 panels but looked OK apart from that. I've also seen auction grade 4A in bayside blue for under £18k. These prices are FOB, ie on the docks in Japan, so budget another £2k for shipping, maritime insurance, taxes etc and then you've got to get ESVA etc to get it on the road.
Not that I've been window shopping or anything
If you use autoadvan then they factor in shipping etc in the prices they quote so it might look dearer but in the end I reckon it isn't that much dearer than doing the whole thing yourself and is slightly easier. I brought a 180sx in through them last year.

So, are we saying that a 1998 car will still need an SVA, meaning it will have to be standard to be registered ?

I said "drop that much" 1.5k aint that much when your spending 21k, that's for a 2003 model btw, like Chipper's found though early models will be cheaper.
Problem is the R34 GTR still looks new and fresh, prices wont drop much until they look old, just like the 32 now, plus there was never that many made in the first place.
Its a true icon now.
As far as I can see yes, although it looks like if you use a model report for the ESVA then you could try and pretend its standard:eusa_naughty:

What I don't quite understand is that Middlehurst brought a load in to sell as new cars, so I would have thought instead of ESVA you could use that fact to prove that a grey import met type approval etc.
This is what Autoadvan said in an email they sent to me when i enquired about the car .." This is an august vehicle so not a long wait to avoid the sva" .
