| Has stopped squeaking Administrator Membership No. 395 | Kindly wrote by the Evil one himself.. Deamon ![]() One that is mostly useful for those wanted to replace the dials or convert their kilometre reading into miles NOTE: I understand that this can be used to "clock" a vehicles mileage - i take no responsibilty, nor do i condone the method of clocking a vehicles mileage. This a simply a guide to help those that wish to remove the clocks. 1. There are several screws holding the panels in around the area you want to get to. They are easy to locate and total around 12 when all removed. Take your time and locate all the screws that need to be taken out. Often removing the first panel will reveal a a couple more screws to be taken out. These cars are built to last! ![]() 2. Adjust your steering wheel down - makes it much easier to remove the housing and also the clocks themselves. 3. If all the screws are out, the housing should slide out pretty easy. Don't pull it to hard (matron!) as its still got all the wires attached for your lights etc. Disconnect these and slide out. ![]() 4. With the housing removed, the clocks themselves are only held in by 4 screws. Take this opportunity to give the area a clean as well.. ![]() 5. BE CAREFUL removing the clocks, they are attached to the looms controlling what you see. There are 3 or 4 plugs in the back of the clocks, so the easiest way to do this is to "rotate" the clocks by 90 degrees and disconnect the plugs. Take note which plug goes where, but its fairly obvious when you come to put it back in. ![]() 6. With the plugs disconnected, carefully remove the clocks and take them somewhere safe (preferably inside away from the wolves). The unit itself is held together with built in clips, have a look around and it will become clear how to separate it. BEFORE using a flathead screwdiver to do so, this is where where you will want to do 1 of 2 things.. either your doing this to replace the dials or you want to convert your mileage. If your converting your mileage like i did - read on.. 7. Before you separate the unit, you have to undo the 2 retaining screws for the odometer - Once they are taken out - carefully separate the unit. Best to do this with the clocks facing down so the odometer bit doesn't fall out. ![]() 8. Once separated, you should be able to see the little wheels with numbers on showing your mileage (kilometre-age!). They are held down by a retaining pin - which in turn is held in by purpose-bent metal. There are several options from here, which i'm sure people will be happy to share - but this is how i did it AND I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU BREAK YOURS. I simply used a small flathead to force the numbers back or forward. I've read that the pin can be removed - i just chose not to do it this way. I'm not saying my method is right or the easiest but it worked. MILEAGE = KILOMETRES / 1.6 9. Now its a case of working backwards.. hope it goes well for you, and remember to take your time - especially with your clocks. |
