| Has stopped squeaking Administrator Membership No. 395 | REPLACING ELECTRIC WINDOW MOTOR/ARM - Written by Anthony McGrath Righty dokey I'm no expert mechanic and quite frankly I'm surprised I still have opposable thumbs and kneecaps after this caper but got the job done in the end so I thought I'd write some chaff about it all. If you blow up the car, set fire to a tramp accidentally or bake the cat somehow. Okay first trick is to remove the door cards. I'm not gonna go into this - its a straight forward enough process! Remove plastic surround around the door opener. Then its 3 screws at bottom, One in the bit you put yer fingers in when opening the door (hidden beneath a grommet), some clips that hold the inner panel into place at either side, and finally a plug connecting the electric window button panel. It should come off without too much incident after that. Once inner door panel is off, free all that plastic lining off the door. You may have to unscrew the door handle (metal thing with two bolts in it!) to get the plastic off. Once the door card is off, plug the elec window control panel back in and lower the door (or do it prior to taking door card off). You'll see the lower portion of the window and a screw (circled below) holding the mech arm to the window. Loosen this (10mm socket) ![]() If you lower the window correctly you'll see another bolt line up (circled below) with a hole - use a 10mm socket to remove this screw. The window should now be free of the mech. Slide the now-free window back up and hold it up by fitting a screwdriver between one of the many holes and the inner part of the door. I haven't diagrammed this but its straight forward enough and I found the window to sit in position at the top without any aid unlike other car door windows I've faffed about with. ![]() now you unplug the elec window motor thingy (shown below). ![]() The four bolts circled below hold the window in place. Loosen off using the 10mm socket again. NB - may be worth leaving one or two in till the other 2 bolts are out in the next step. ![]() These two bolts shown below hold the window motor adjusting arm in place. Another 10mm socket will loosen these off. Worth noting where they sat prior to slackening off. Mine were neatly in the middle hoot ![]() Once these bolts are out and the rest of the four bolts above then the motor/arm should slide out neatly in the recess below. Watch that connecting plug doesn't get caught as your removing it! ![]() Below is the window motor mech... fitting is straight forward once you suss out that the window mech goes into place this side facing toward you!! I didn't realise this and spent 20 minutes trying to fit it the wrong bloody way doh! Anyhow it slides into place neatly, line up the four bolts with the inner portion of the door and put back in place. Bolt up the adjustor arm screws too but leave a bit of play in them for a moment till the window is working ok. ![]() And that should be it really. Bolt the window glass back into place on the motor arm (that top bit in the picture above!). Tighten up the bolts and test it out. |
