Project Manspace

NO, i`m not setting up a gay dating website, i`m building the true home of man, a shed, or more precisely a workshop.
The hope is that if i get this thing built I can actually put some of the equipment i`ve bought over the years (that clearly hasn`t paid for itself) to use. Hopefully i`ll be able to offer you lot MIG and TIG welding services, Plasma cutting, and custom fabrication of Mild steel, Stainless and Aluminium parts, we`ll see how it goes, it`s all just been a major hobby up until recently.

Anyway, in order to build the shed, i`ve got to clear the area first, which means moving a big pile of earth that came out when the pond was dug. `er indoors decided she wanted raised vegetable beds, so that`s what i`ve been doing today.

Pics from about 9 this morning:

And how it looked at 6 tonight:

You`ll have to excuse the junk around, the area`s been a bit of a dumping ground while we`ve had the builders and plumbers in and i can`t get to the tip. The plan with that area is once that soil is moved, the little shed on the left, will move to the far right and be used for "beverage making" (note apple trees) and where it currently stands will be a 16x12 workshop.

Not bad i don`t think for a days work, i`m blooming paying for it now though, my back looks like a nicely cooked lobster and i`m back on crutchs, never mind, few more pills and some stella will sort that, ready for tommorows challenge.................................the pergola

It`s quite decieving, theres a fair bit of space there, those beds are 4ft wide 2ft high and 16ft long, there`s another 16ft between the end of the bed and the hedge (which is nearly 3ft thick itself) and that`s being taken out to make way.

It`s alright working on it in my own time, if things start to hurt, i can just stop, take some more pills and wait till i`m ready to do more, i`m under no time pressure. I do feel a bit guilty in a way, i can do this, but i`m in no state to go back to work. An awkward state, but not one i`m going to be judged on.

Once it`s all done, i`ll be asking you lot for things you`d like to see, there may be free samples involved

Good man!

I'll take a drive over to your house soon then and you can have a pop at my rusty top mounts if you like?

Looking good - I've been wondering about something like that - much more convenient for planting and picking the veg out of the ground. I like the way, in the last picture on the lower-right, you seem to have made a small model of the raised beds even including the soil inside

Do you think those sides are strong enough to retain that weight of earth?

Little update on this one, the aformetioned pergola thingy has been started, but tbh, i ran out of enthusiam today as a lot of it was being compromised as i couldn`t get to the tools i needed.

thats just the beginning of the top, it`s got trellis to cover that as well so vines can grow over it and give some shade for the fish, all i`ve got to do now is find a way of lifting the whole thing 7 foot in the air to attach the posts

I`ve come to the conclusion now i bloody hate woodwork, but it`ll be worth it in the end when i get to the shed.

Mendoza, what on earth is that site all about!!!! It`s some awful "cillit bang" barry goes to the disco affair Not bad looking sheds though, the biggest they do is what i`m after, but there pretty reasonably priced compared to most, cheers for that.

Well, i`ve put the posts in and notched them into the wall, but i`ve reached the pain limit for today so i`ve given up. Ive also lost my ability to fly and be on all four corners at one to bolt the top to the posts, god knows how i`m going to do that, think i might have to find a few volenteers or some acroprops to hold it while I bolt it, something to worry about later.

There you go, all of a sudden it looks rather massive, the`ll be a whole rainforest worth of wood in the garden if i keep going this way.
