| Nigel S has just ordered the 345mm Dans big brake kit , coupled with the SRF fluid he has and braided lines, stopper etc i'm expecting this kit to work better than my Stock GTR brembos set with uprated pads, SRF, lines and stopper, the trackday we are both going on next month should be a good test. I'll be takings loads of pics when i fit them and will do a comparison |

| Simple really, just physics: A greater diameter disk will allow a greater amount of torque to be applied [when braking] to the disk, for the same amount of pressure exerted at the Master cylinder. So, my recommendations for improving your brakes: Follow these until your happy, don't just skip to the end, as you may spend way too much money for something you don't need. e.g. my standard gtst calipers and disks are fine, more than ample for driving about on the roads and hooning about. However, they did fade after 3 or 4 "hot" laps of Silverstone. Just sit down, look at how your driving, do you do much track action? etc. then decide where to stop - no pun! 1.) Change your fluid - and thus ensure brakes are fully bled. Good high temp dot 5.1 fluid is good. 2.) Change your flexi brake hoses for Stainless Steel braided lines. 3.) Ensure you have the best brake pad material for your use. Look for the Co-efficient of friction and intended application in the bumpf. If your still not happy.... 4.) Change your disks. Drilled is not a bad thing, but what you gain in cooling you loose in surface area of braking - same goes for grooves/pimples. 5.) Look at increasing the Diameter of the brake disks. 6.) Look at changing the Calipers - bigger calipers take bigger pads, which can put more friction material onto the disk at any one time - ergo giving more braking. 7.) Finally, when you have exhausted everything else, spend your £2k on some AP racing jobbies with more pistons, mahassive disks and fully floating brake bells. Then, and only then will you experience deceleration so exciting that it actually puts more of a smile on yerr face than the acceleration bit ![]() Most people's brakes are fine for everyday motoring, however some do do the odd trackday and come undone with their stopping ability. Upgrading to GTR Brembos on a gtst is a good thing as the pads for the GTR are not only cheaper, but slightly bigger [ergo more effective] and you have more pad choice. Also remember to check your pads often and your tyres - they're the most important thing in a braking system!! ![]() |

Yes i Have just ordered DB powers 345mm front discs kit with the larger red stuff pads to match the disk size ,braided hoses SRF Fluid and a brake stopper from moff I think the main problem with the stock breaks is heat build up and old std break fluid. larger disks should help cooling and the SRF should reduce the chance of breake fade with the larger pad area helping the breaking force stoping it quicker the stopper and hoses should make it feel better under hard breaking time will tell and as Richf says when we bo the upgrade we will have to do a how to and some comparisoms between his brembos and my set up ether way it should be a big improvment over stock gtst breaks as trev has said i am not going to do 50 lap injurance raceing the maximum track bay lap session is only going to be about 10 laps and the average about 6laps and if i am driving it that hard on the road i would need shooting so the setup i am going for should work well with my cars level 1 mods and up to about 400 bhp wich is my goal (a not to some others yes I am upgrading the Breaks First there more important than extra power) Last edited by Nigel S; 18th June 2008 at 03:43 PM.. | |

| Half Man Half Partridge Club Member Membership No. 067 | If I am honest I have skirted through this thread a little but the basic thing people seem to be missing here is that a GTR weighs significantly more than a GTST, so to fit the GTR brake set up onto a GTST, good fluid/lines and pads IS going to be an improvement but on a tuned GTR with the increased speeds and weight then I don't think they are good enough for track. I have the Brembo F40's fitted to the front of Tracys car and although they are absolutely awsome at stopping the car, the set up is not balanced and it is not good for really heavy braking if you are not pointing in a straight line. It may be worth adding that the discs I use with the F40's are only 330mm but much better than the stock brake set up. I think the DBB type of kits are very good value and very good for fast road use, track work is a different thing altogether and personally I feel 2 piece discs (bells/rotors), good fluid, good pads and mainly a balanced set up is what is needed, bigger calipers and surface area is an obvious bonus. |

| Down South Administrator Membership No. 044 | Pete mentioned that with replacing just the fronts to a bigger set up and leaving the rears std upset his brake balance , my question is ...Is there some sort of gizmo that can fitted to adjust the balance in this case ? |
