Brake upgrade

Quote:
upgraded my gtst with brembos but the larger disc and pad area it what makes the difference not the caliper , think about it 4 pots compared to 4 pots and the same amount of fluid because with the same master cylinder you can only push so much.
So would you say that a set Brembo's on a GTR with bigger disc on front and rear with braded lines and some good quality fluid would be fine for road and trackday use? And how would that compare to upgrading the whole kit?

Let's put it this way mate, I use braided hoses (all round) uprated brake fluid, GTR front Brembos with Feroddo pads and a Brake Stopper, still use the STANDARD REAR disc, pads, calipers.

15 constant laps at Landow and NO brake fade and trust me I'm very hard and late on the brakes.

So yes, I think that setup would be fine mate.

depends on your power too remember, Gordon found his brembo's faded after a while. Not sure what pads and discs he's using though

Lets put it this way I use braided hoses all round - Uprated Motul brake fluid. GTR Brembos all round , with yellowstuff pads and a brake stopper - Larger 3G slotted discs 20 slot front & 10 slot rear. and IMO they still do not STOP quick enough for 600BHP. so will be upgrading very soon

I agree 100% ..I would of thought Brembo calipers would have been a big improvement over stock GTSt calipers
Do i get a GTR ?

Or are we being mugged off with 4 pot stoptechs etc?

this is an interesting senario for me because i've got a shopping list of parts that i'm compiling and the brake upgrade is on the list.

For those of who who have seen my car you can see that i'm not shy in spending money, but i'm a great beleiver in value for money, so if the Brembo calipers offer me little benefit over my current set up then its not worth the £500-£600 spend.

I have 345mm front discs (drilled/grooved) and standard rear discs ( although i am replacing the rear discs with drilled/grooved discs), i have braided lines front and rear to go on and the front pads will be changed to larger EBC pads to suit the larger discs and rear pads changed too. I have a brake cylinder stopper and the fluid will be changed.

So this set up should be fine for fast road use, i doubt i'll take my car on the track (pussy !! ).

If i wasn't going to spend a shed load of money again this winter on the engine power and cooling then i would go for some nice K sport or something because they look soooooo nice, but the £600 for a set of Brembo's would probably be better spent on the engine, do you reckon ?

cheers

andy.

Look at the size of the brake discs on any super car, size is everything as it dissipates the heat from heavy braking, oh and they look cool too

If your smart enough to understand this..

R33 GTST
Master Cylinder diam (mm) - 23.8 444.88mm^2
Front Caliper Piston(diam x qty) - 40.4 ×4 = 5127.58mm^2
Front rotors (diam x thk) - 296×30
Rear Caliper Piston(diam x qty) - 38.18×2 = 2289.78mm^2 ratio FR = 2.239
Rear Rotors (diam x thk) - 297×18
Total area 7417.36mm^2 brake to master ratio 16.67

R33 GTR with Brembos
Master Cylinder diam (mm) - 26.9 568.32mm^2
Front Caliper Piston(diam x qty) - (44+3Cool×2 ... leading pistons smaller then trailing 5309.29mm^2
Front rotors (diam x thk) - 324×30
Rear Caliper Piston(diam x qty) - 40×2 2513.27mm^2 ratio FR = 2.1125
Rear Rotors (diam x thk) - 300×22
total 7822.56 brake to master ratio 13.76

Total area isn't much more for the GTR, and thats with the standard discs for the GTST

That could just be why Porche manufacture their brake discs with the holes already in them

Who knows anything anymore???

That's the train of thought (about cracking) but now after 6 years I'm being told GTR Brembos aren't any better than STOCK GTST brakes!

Think it's crossed AND drilled that crack.

Like I said, I seem to know nothing about the brakes on Skylines so I'll keep quiet! LOL.
