Idiots guide to trackdays

For track day novices like me, I'd find it useful to have an idiot's guide to trackdays.

For example:

What equipment is needed, e.g. helmet.

Minimum car requirements.

Track etiquette, letting people pass etc.

Where to get trackday insurance, and if it's even worth bothering with (small print etc).

I think what puts me off currently is being ignorant to the stuff above, which is a shame with all the great days the Club organises

Motor racing flags and signalling by marshals

* YELLOW flag means that there's danger ahead of you so take extra care.
* RED flag means there's been a serious incident and the sessions have been stopped, so slow down to a crawl and make your way back to the pits or as directed.
* YELLOW and RED checkered flag means there's oil on the circuit so obviously take care.
* BLUE flag means that another car wants to overtake you.
* BLACK flag means you have been naughty or there's something wrong with your car, you need to come into the pits asap.

Same story with me Antony, although I'm sure a member with more experience would sit in for a few laps, to keep things on track (no pun intended). After seeing the pictures of Anglesey, would defo fancy having a go, just to see how well the car handles in a safe enviroment

If you stick to the rules and drive within yours and your cars capabilities then a Trackday is the MOST fun day you will ever have in your car

It's not a race either, don't feel like you hoon about lap after lap..

learn the track, and learn how the car reacts, take it at your own pace not anybody elses.. and you'll have fun throughout the day as you get the hang of things

I still think the best way is to go on a novice trackday, I did have a link somewhere....I will go and try to find it.

Thing is, as a novice you do worry about holding others up in an open pit lane event. Much safer for all novices to go out together , if you ask me.

The Snetterton circuit puts you into different groups, which helps.

Or come on a dedicated SOC day such as Llandow , our own members will give you some tips as Bubble and Floyd did me at the last one . no one from your own club is going to run you off the track that is a certainty

I know that, I just would feel better on a novice only event.

If one of you zoomed past me on track i know what would happen....
I'd give chase and probably cock it up somewhere.
