Had a remap (Horsham Developments)

Due to my constant scratching of head trying to work out why my fuel consumption had dropped to low teens i decided to bite the bullet and get an expert to look at it

My afr's were ranging from 9/1 on boost to mid 12's when on light throttle and idle ,the car was performing fine perhaps slightly flat but didnt seem that rich so i didnt believe my afr gauge but the 160-180 miles out of a tank was showing something was wrong also my boost was a little unstable a the car did struggle to make decent boost without spiking

So i checked the maf, checked for boost leaks and anything else i could think of but couldnt find a reason for this.

So went along to see Jez at Horsham Developments http://www.h-dev.co.uk/index2.php?page=home as they are local to me and are experienced with the power fc.

First off we checked my afr gauge with his standalone one and mine seemed to read correctly secondly we put a fresh set of plugs in and Jez decided to remap the whole lot.

The map that was in there was set very very rich , i dont know why this was and i dont know why the car seemed fine for so long its only recently developed this thirst but after a bit of a tinker and a mapping session on the road the car (better imo and they dont have their own dyno) certainly feels stronger through the rev range and afr's are a much more sensible with them dropping into the 11's under full boost and high 13's -low14's on cruise.

It was the old rich map that yielded my 12.8 so it will be interesting to see whether the car is any quicker in the 1/4.

Knock is about the same as it was (20's) but its a hot day and i had inlet temps of 50 degrees so i'm not too worried , i tend to run octane booster when i run nitrous anyhow so i dont expect it will rise too much

All in all top service and reasonable cost and nice to have someone on my doorstep , might be of use to those Reading, Oxford, Swindon peeps to have someone local as these guys have a good rep with the SX crowd but arent as well known in the Skyline world

The difference is in the driving i'm not interested in dyno figures really if its driving well i can sacrifice a few ponies

but then i always have bigger nitrous jets

ohh seems to have already

Yesterday i had a full tank and went about 40miles ....20 miles normal driving and 20 miles fast road ...i used about 1/3rd of a tank

Today i have done about the same 40miles of which 20 miles was on road mapping with lots of full throttle stuff and the gauge has barely moved which is encouraging

Nice to see you've sorted the overfueling out, it looked a little rich when you started up leaving a meet before (the one we all hid under the gazebo while it was pissing it down with lightning, seem to remember you were holding an umbrella at the same time too )

£299.99 for a remap , £67.49 for the plugs , didnt charge me anything for fitting the plugs , checking the afrs etc etc etc and i was there for about 4 hours

Seems much the same as RSP and Thor based off old invoices

jez rocks and i haven't even been to see him yet! but soon my 200 will have the jez treatment due to high knock readings on my safc, got to get a stage 2 chip, possibly tweak the map on the avcr and some other bits while i'm there! but hopefully when i leave i'll have 300+ponies and a well sorted 200 cos he can do coilover setup with cornerweights!

Jez kindly revisited my car for me today , idle was a bit uneven , i tried the obvious things to correct this ie stripped and cleaned the idle control valve , checked and rechecked for air leaks etc but i couldnt find the cause , the car runs fine but the revs were uneven and the afrs all over the place

Jez thought he could tune this out so tweaked the map a little and smoothed out the afr's but the idle is all over the place , runs at 1200rpm now but as soon as you unplug the idle controller the car drops to 800rpm and purrs.....think the idle control is knackered

As an aside i was playing around with the nitrous over the weekend as i havent tried it since the remap , when i put 25hp jets in there last weekend i couldnt even feel them coming in but made a few changes and fitted 45hp jets and retried it and its working well.... very well

When i had previously tried 45hp and bigger jets i was suffering from boost creep, i had come to the conclusion this was because the small tubbie i have couldnt get rid of the extra gas flow through the wastegate, seems i've turned a corner and have solved this problem by changing the set up on the nitrous system , this should allow me to run bigger jets perhaps as big as 75hp ones which should yield over 100hp at the flywheel
