| Unfortunatly I cant put you on my ignore list ISJ cos you are a mod I hope you put me on ignore because you presume i am talking to you when i am trying to offer an explanation to others on the forum who have limited or no knowledge of turbocharged cars and applications, to someone who does understand this more this could sound patronising but its not meant to be And i'm not arguing with you i know as i fully understand what "compressor stall or surge " is but its only part of the story of what is happening in this situation, its a result of that pressure wave and pressure differential as well as the slowing of the turbine (which you dont think happens) it also doesnt need a throttle or bov for a turbo to suffer from compressor surge the two are by no means mutually exclusive. Compressor stall also IMO doesnt require mentioning in a thread about BOV's, compressor stall is a routine occurance for any engine and happens to varying degrees all the time even with a bov The word "stall " is correct as per the dictionary explanation of the word and didnt need to be picked up by a pedant the fact is you may also get "compressor stall" as well as having a pressure wave stall the turbo, you seem to think to its a momentary reduction in shaft speed and has little impact but shaft speeds can easily drop 50,000rpm between shifts with a comparable reduction in boost, on a circuit or the road where the throttle is shut for longer the effect is more pronounced As for jet engines coming up its pretty irrelavant as like diesel turbos they have no throttle in the way and therefore dont need a BOV although of course they can both suffer compressor stall But after all this crap i'll not bother with trying to help people , i'm no google expert just pratically experinced and there is simply tons of duff information on the internet which is cut and pasted and taken as gospel and has fuelled many an armchair expert or internet argument like this one |
