well been to checkpoint today and had her checked out the result of the leakdown test was
1=2%
2=2%
3=1%
4=3%
5=1%
6=4%

with a compression test result of 120-125psi across all cylinders so that saved a few quid on an engine re-build. I discussed this with callum and he reckons it fpr which is the fse power boost valve and he expressed his dislike for this kit as he's seen to many fail to trust. So i've now got to look for a decent fpr anyone got any recommendations as this will also mean a slight re-map

3bar on the rising rate i've got to run a check in the morning with the gauge plugged into it to see exactly what pressure it's giving on a cold start up. Your ears must of been burning this morning. what fpr would you go for i was looking at sard/hks or nismo ?

Yes thats what I would do as thats stock fuel pressure. It will prove things one way or the other. My money still is on the lamda doo dah though

I do have a fetish for Nismo ones, i will say though if you have warlboro thingy it will kill it quickly if you raise the pressure as they are noisy and shite

Ivor said it was also smoking quite badly after start up, the lambda may well be faulty but it is still in open loop when it is worst.
Unfortunately Sam had pinched the only wideband that currently still works to map a Fiesta (with Mitsubishi Evo running gear ) at Knockhill so i couldn't verify mixtures at start up.

Checkpoint,

Is it still bad under load above 5000rpm as its open loop at that point and just working off the map? Once the bonus crap has burnt out (thats a polite way of saying once the excess fuel and the oil washed in as a result is out of the carbon in the engine and out of the exhaust etc) then it should point the finger one way or the other it just depends on how long you will wait for "clean"?

I havent seen it and have no first hand experience of the fse's but on the group buy there were a fair amount of D.O.A's though so it could be poodle, I just think that if it works for a sensible time period it will likely run for ever most things do. Its rich so that in many respects is the lesser of two evils as it wont do so much damage short term with bore wash

I know what you are getting at

From what i can gather from Ivor (correct me if i'm wrong Ivor ), there is no constant smoke problem (other than slightly more than the usual acceleration enrichment) except from A LOT of smoke if revved not long after start up from cold.
There was not perhaps as much smoke (in following headlights whilst accelerating) after it was last mapped until now when it has become slightly worse on occasion (you will always get some - as you know).

From the smell of the smoke/fumes from Ivors exhaust is a rich condition rather than oil.

There was no complaint of smoke when driving in a manner that would have been in closed loop. Because of this i never checked the lambda.

This to me with the information i had seemed to be all linked to open loop running, which is set at a constant with the map, so, should not change.
Therefore looking for an explanation for an increase in fuel (or perhaps a decrease in air) i spotted the FSE FPR (we have found them to be so unreliable/inconsistent that we will not tune a car with one fitted) and suggested he checks the fuel pressure after start up when it is smoking (not always easy to verify as even a slightly wrong fuel pressures can cause black smoke and the pressure will be fluctuating when revved anyway).
Unfortunately i never got a chance to check it with the wideband V's the fuel pressure to see.

These FPR's (and i've even had it with a SARD FPR) when not functioning properly can act almost like a delay in changing the fuel pressure, then settle at a wrong fuel pressure only to work ok "the next time" hence the suspicion.

If this is the case then coupled with the cold start/warm up enrichment it may be what is causing all the smoke when revved when cold.

*rests case*

Shiny tat is almost always shiny tat. Anyway Ivor a probe across the rev range will tell you what is wrong. I have had issues where mine smokes like a thingy but that seems to be light blue and tyre related rather than on occasion a masive paritial throttle due to the silly size tubby than anything else, I would personally go do down to a gt30 now for tractability but I did always want a 500 square build rather than a 550/550 @ .1 bar unusable animal. I stand on my lambda thingy.

Ayway more to change for me Pope
