If you were removing your head anyway Dan then it would be a definite god move to port match the inlet/exhausts and a general tidy up, if you were not planning on removing the head for other reasons then I would say it would be an expensive job for not massive gains.

I have heard that to go beyone 500bhp, this is a must, but your talking around £600-£700 to have done professionally.

You can do a bit yourself as far as the Port matching and a bit of a tickle up to smooth off any rough marks with a dremel or a drill with some stones.

Are you stripping the head down completely ie valves out etc?

I thought you was a mechanic, should you be asking these sorts of questions?

Not a must at all, It would certainly not do any harm but I think the real gains would be through cam choice

Some Evo heads cost about £2000 for machine work, (if your bhp is heading for four figures) and that's just a 4 cylinder.

Like Pete says, it won't do any harm to give it a tidy up while it's off.

IIRC they have run 1000bhp in the states on a std RB26 head.

Oh right, just Andy W told me the head can't cope with the airflow at 500 bhp or more withour head work. Perhaps i got it wrong. I am in lala land sometimes.

The stock flow on an RB25 is enough for around the 500ath mark maybe a little more.

You won't see much past 520ath anyway.

Though in the case of an RB26 there isn't much point as mentioned in the posts above.

Well the head will be being stripped down once I know where my finances are.

I will be doing it myself as pointed out I am a mechanic... But, Ive never ever looked at porting and polishing. Looks like I might have me a go at it though (Polishing that is)

Also she was pushing 406 I think ath. I don't think I am going to be able to do anything with the head to get any more power, just make it all stronger.
