I cant see why the optimate would not work equally well for cars

why not start it once a week for 15 - 20 mins and let it charge and get fluids round the engine?

Trouble is Moff, they damage your battery in the long term. The optimate is a really good product as it maintains the battery....

I use one of those Clarke Quickstarts, you use it for jumpstarting a car. I have a cable out under the garage door and up through one of the rubber stoppers in the boot onto the battery, the charge lasts for ages as it's only my alarm thats draining it and your effectively unsing 2 batteries.

It has a voltage indicator on it so as it drops down to 12 volts (ish) I stick it on charge and leave it for a while.

More use than an optimate etc because you can use it as a booster for jump starting.

In fact, not last new year but the new years eve before we had a power cut so I hooked it up to an inverter and used it to power the tv to see the bells in. Quite a useful thing really.
