my car!!!

now i know im a newbiew, and ive only had the car since saturday, but im starting to wonder if all is as sweet as i first thought.

once warmed up the car is nice to drive, a bit of a pig in traffic, but nothing that cant be coped with, but when cold, it's unbearable, it surges on revs, cant get first gear when in traffic, jsut doesnt seem right to me.

the car is a 95 gtst, and i cant help thinking that things are wrong. i know my scoob has problems getting first when cold, but i can get first gear, this thing is nye on impossible. the scoob from cold drives perfectly, no surging, no stalling etc etc.

am i missing something, are they all like this, or is it something simple that needs adjusting. it does have a stupid bov, but cant imagine that this would cause all of the problems, especially when the car runs so well when warmed up. this bov will be coming off as soon as i can get round to it, never been a fan of them.

is there somewhere local to me in stoke on trent that deals with and has knowledge of this type of car that could look over it and give me an idea of what is causing the problems.

one more thing, what sort of mileage should i expect from a full tank? i know all cars are different, but a rough idea would be good.

any help would be appreciated

cheers

steve

Mine is always crap when cold happens when the weather turns cold, I just started the car 10 mins before I would set off.

First geat being a prob when cold suggested you might have Heavy Shock Proof oil in the gear box, which is like treacle when cold, fine when warm.

Average mileage to a tank depends of course how you drive. I waste a tank in 80 miles on the track, or do 270 is drie miss daisy. Most people work on 200 ish, or 18 - 20 MPG

thanks for the replies, the gear thing i can live with, as you say it sounds as though it is similar to the scoob, i.e normal, but the surging problem is a pig, im guessing it is down to the timing/cold idle not being correct and it's giving the car too much when cold.

mileage to a tank i guess would be about that, ive got 110 miles out of just under half a tank, so will see how that goes.

does anyone know of somewhere closer to stoke that deals with these cars so i can get it looked at properly, ive been told to ring andyw from spa, but they are over 4 hours away from me.

again any help appreciated.

I would get some new gear oil in and see how that helps the car as there is no point living with some thing that could jsut get worse and cause more damage

Best to get things checked out before any damage is done

It would be a good idea to get a standard dump valve put back on before they look at it though

yeh, i want my arse kicking, it was one of those heart ruled the head moments, fell in love with the noise it made, looked at the car when it was warm, and never gave it a second thought, the dump valve was one of the first things that was going to go back to standard anyway, but they are going to sort it for me when it goes in, the fella i spoke to seems to think it might be an air leak through the dump valve thats causing the poor idle when cold, so we shall see.

Good stuff...

If he spoke slowly then it was Dean, if he spoke at 100 mph, it'll be Mark
