Ferrari threaten to quit.

I found this on one of the news pages, it talks about Ferrari thinking of leaving F1, if F1 want to continue with their aim of a standardised engine.

FFS why start this now they have had 10 years to voice the concerns on this. like it or lump it

Well i say bring back the engine's and gearbox's from the 80's no ecu's no ABS and no TCS, Old skool gear changing and non of this flappy paddle stuff and changing the fuel mixture as you race. If i remember rightly the engine's in the 80's where 1500cc with a turbo pushing out around 750-800bhp. Put all this into the modern day F1 car and then we will find out who the men are from the boys in F1

If you read the article it's not just Ferrari who do not like the idea of a standardised engine. The others are not too keen either.

One of the main reasons that many brands put so many hundreds of millions into the sport is significantly due to the development of and to create awareness of the brands ability to build superior engines.

I would be suprised if Ferrari were the only ones TBH...

I agree. I would have thought most teams would be against it.

Most teams are against it, if you read the article it tells you towards the end that Toyota, Mercedes, Honda, Renault and BMW etc do not want this either.

i agree with what is said above, the cars look nothing like the makers on-road retail offerings, the only reason they would want to participate is to "advertise" their mechanical prowess; fundamentally, the engine!

Indeed, I get involved in this first hand as I am involved in the engine strategy for the brand though Tim you are absolutely correct, it really would be a BIG problem for the sport as then the main carry over would be brake development....

This is yet another crazy rule that is set to ruin F1..How will teams develope thier engines if they are to remain standard?
