problem on cold starting

ok, I ain't had the car long but it has been 100% until a few days ago, we were away on holiday and on two very cold mornings it did the same. turn the key and it starts instantly as usuall, run for a couple of seconds and dies, starts again after a few turns and takes a few seconds to clear the excess fuel.

many years ago I ownd an RS turbo that suffered a similar fault, it was easily cured by disconecting the fifth injector that only fired on very cold starts.

I've looked but can't see an extra injector on the skyline so I'm guessing it's gona be harder to fix.

this morning it was very cold but as soon as she fired up I brought the revs up a little and she didn't die or smoke from overfueling.

any ideas what to check/replace to fix this?

only ever does it on very cold start, rest of day shes fine

i have a similar problem but from warm, mine dies when coming to junctions, in traffic or at trraffic lights, im told it could be an air leak, blow off valve, maf, coilpacks or plugs, so im starting with the maf on the basis that its getting worse gradually rather than having been like that and stayed the same over a period of time, then im gonna try removing the bov and sticking with standard recirc valve. apprantly the bov can cause the ecu to not read metred air properly and therefore dumps a load of fuekl into the engine causing flooding and stalling.

hope that helps, im sure someone a bit more knowledgable will be along shortly to put me in my place and help out

cheers for that, mine is still standard so at least it's not a dodgy upgrade causing trouble.

we did just under 1000miles and it only ever did it on two very cold mornings, never stalls otherwise.

this morning it was cold but as soon as it started I brought the revs up to 1500 for about 20 seconds and no problems so it's just cold start at idle????

Mine is crap on cold mornings.

There is a temp sensor near the air con rad fan, could be knackered ?

might be worth taking your idle control valve off and giving it a good clean. it's at the back of the intake manifold and has a purple plug it's awkward to get off but should only take about ten minutes to do

yeah that could be worth a go, I've been meaning to do it anyway as I think it's a bit "heavy handed" when turning the steering trying to park etc it'll sometimes rev a bit more than it needs to to maintain idle speed.

job for tomorrow then

cheers
