Fuse problem :(

I have had a look round the forum, but found nothing to help me so here it is:-

When i turn my lights on the fuse under the bonnet keeps blowing and my Tail,Dash,VRN,and Fog lights don't work. The head lights, reverse and indicators all work though.

I do not have a stereo wired up the now and all wires in these areas are all covered and tucked away.

Any thoughts PLEASE

Cheers Cass.

If the fuse is blowing then it can only be 2 things.

You either have a short too earth or the fuse is incorrect.

If you aren't sure on what you are doing here I would leave it to a proper auto electrician. ****ing up here is an easy way to cause a lot of damage.

I have stuck a 20 amp fuse in it and it blows that to so i must have a bad earth somewhere.

Has anyone got a wiring diagram for the rear light from rear to fuse box under bonnet please?

Cheers Cass

It's a real bad idea to go and put a higher rated fuse in than what is recommended when you have a known fault. That's an easy way of melting a good chunk of your cars wiring loom.

Well I suppose it is a way of finding the fault, just follow where the acrid smoke is coming from!

Seriously though, bad idea.

It's a pity your so far away in Porridgewog land, I would have had a look otherwise.

Well that was kind of my plan as i don't know what else to do now lol.

Na i'm sticking to proper fuses.I am going to trace the stereo wire and see where that is ground to and have a look and see what the story is there.

Failing that just put a few torches in the light sockets so i can drive at night

my guess would be to look at the wiring at the back of the fog light switch ! worth a look due to the fact it's not factory wiring !

one of the wires might have come off and maybe shorting on another

Do the same with everything else on that circuit, then plug them back in one by one till she pops... In the absence of some experienced advice, it's a process of elimination

I got caught with this problem once and it was just one bulb in the side light circuit shorting itself out internally and blowing the fuses. Laborious job, but worth taking them all out just incase it is that.

Normally find faults where people have wired things in near the stereo, or fag lighter etc.

Just had everything dismantled this morning,Dash, center console, speedo, steering column cover the lot and went over every individual wire in turn and all looks good and solid.Re went over all fuses and even replaced ones that might of been dodgy, took off the ground connections gave them a clean and rubbed down the ground area.

Still the little bugger goes POP. I will check the bulbs though as i have not done that yet.

Loosing the will to carry on with this car again after it was all looking on the up.

Edit:-Just checked and Bulbs are all good.
