Dyno results Part 1

Well , last Thursday i went for a trip to see Pete at Thor to get my new ECU fitted and mapped. Unfortunately it was'nt as straight forward as first thought as my loom did'nt seem to match up with the ECU pinout , plus there were a few wires missing under the bonnet and a few extras in the loom not seen before. We put this down to it maybe been a last of the run 34 so maybe a few things were changed , who knows. After getting there at 09:30 , and finally finishing all the wireing up and re-routing power through different wires in the ECU by about 13:30, i finally thought this is it , let see what we've got. Pete got it all bolted up on the dyno pack , popped his head out and asked what power i wanted. I thought this was great , normall you get this is what we expect but to be asked what i wanted was quite a shock. I told him my plans and that i'm building another forged bottom end , and at the moment its running a standard one so to be safe i suggested at the moment 500 would suffice , then when i go back we would push to see were we can get with the forged bottom end.
This is were it all went a bit tits up. After setting up the base map and hearing it revving its danglies off , he cam out to tell me that for some reason it was'nt producing any boost pressure. We did a few pressure tests on the pipework and all was fine , and then as because i now run without a AFM , he disconnected the pipework and covered the outlet on the turbo with a bit of alloy in his hand and then did another run. By rights the turbo should have blown our hand away if it was producing boost pressure but it never did a thing , so i was informed that my nice new GT35r turbo was Foooked , after about 10-15 mins of dyno time. To say i was a bit peeved would be a underestimation .

a BIG thanks to Pete and his mechanic , and all at Thor for the help and patience , it was all much apprecaited and i'll be back soon.

So heres to getting a new turbo and going for round 2

mike

That is a real shame Mike

What sort of wastegate are you using, is it external?

Shame to hear that Mike, just think all projects have their hold backs. Once you've gotten the turbo sorted though it should show great results

I'd of been much happier if there was lots of boost , then we'd have known the turbo was ok. Everything was the same as before , all i did was fit the new turbo , i never touched the wastegate other than putting new pipes on. I did though forget to tell my boost controller though a few years back about it been external instead of internal and that gave me loads of boost

i'm in the middle of trying to get them to exchange the turbo , they have replied to me asking for the invoice number which i have sent them , so now its a case of seeing what they'll do. Itsd a OBX turbo from tuning depot on fleabay. Other than that A+R Turbos in the leeds area have said that if its useing the Garrett internals ( or more the case copies ) as it was advertised , they will rebuild it but its still alot of money , more than i have at the moment.

Turbo dynamics quoted me £600 for a newcore, said you couldn't get the turbine wheel separate for mine, turbo works but a bit sof crap weld from the manifold damaged the blades, never noticed until I took it off to fit the new smaller turbine housing, thats when I decided to put it back to stock (ish).

I know how you feel.
