    Exclamation Project SPA III

    Evening all.

I wasn't going to post any off this, but why not, im doing it anyway now.

As you are all awear I bought a GTR last year in which I have had nothing but problems with after not being told the history untill now. Thanks Adam Fox

Anyway, since I had it I had 5th Gear blew up which was a historic fault. Now fixed. I was told it had a twin plate clutch, which it isnt also told it 'should have forged internals' but since found it does not. *

Anyway, after seeing the temps rise one day to a silly amount I decided to check it out at work and found the oil was in the coolant and noticed the thermostat was seized (Due to oil). So I changed it for a nismo one. I thought it was just a little oil, not to much so didnt worry. Then a few small trips later found the temps going up. Pulled the radiator cap off. to find a nice foamy diahorerra like stuff. Pulled the the theormostat out and flushed it again.

I assumed by this point the head gasket had gone. But after speaking to Abbey, seems the head is cracked which has accroding to the paperwork be fixed by a well know garage. So £3.5k to get fixed...

So, over the winter I will be pulling the head off, geting it re-routed (Some magic trick abbey can sort) then rebuilding and adding a few things. Sadly after spending lots, I wont be gaining any extra bhp / torque.

Tomorrow I will start to pull it all apart and I will be taking many photo's, mainly incase I forget where it all goes. My only problem, shes going to Spa in March...

    110 days to go.

    * Please note I do not hold anyone resonsible for this as you would not be able to tell if these were installed if you did not see it yourself.

Now you know the reason I didn't come on the forum much or get to many meets. Lost all faith in people and Skylines, but hopefully soon, I will gain all the love again.

Not an uncommon discovery Dan where people find out just what their car hasn't got fitted that it should have.

Good luck in the rebuild, why not look out for a 2nd hand head, might be a cheaper option.

Already thought of that, second hand head will just get the same problem. I was expecting a few problems when I bought it. I just wanted expecting to get a car with 'known' problems and a previous seller not tell when its in a community.

But it will soon be sorted.

Really hope that you get it all sorted out in time Dan. It's a shame that you weren't made aware of the existing problems with it before you bought it

I paid a lot more than that for my rebuild and didnt gain much BHP. sometimes it is not about getting more power, but making sure what you have is safe

    110 DAYS TO GO

Hense when it went for mapping I asked them to make it safe, whether it lost power or not as it was, it lost some, so not worried about that safe for track and im happy.

as a rule of thumb, when checking a car out for purchase and it states 'should have forged internals' always look at the sealer around the sump. Nissan gasket sets come with RED sealer
from the factory the sealer is GREY
Rods and pistons do not come out quietly without removing the sump !
