Five & a quarter inches.
Though you'll probably have to do a little trimming with a dremel coz the mounts will vary a bit in size.
Thanks, is that for the front and the rears?
From memory, I believe so.
Brilliant, thanks for that, means i can go buy what i need tomorrow without having to guess it.
Can anyone else confirm this?
I don't want beef from R33 Atky if my memory is failing me![]()
Haha, i'm not that bad mate, thanks for the advice anyways.
where they the right size after did Mandys memory serve her well as if they where and it did then im going to replace my rear speakers and my install is done apart from some making it look nice work to do lol
From memory I think i fitted 5 1/2" components front and rear in the end, I slightly modified the factory speaker housings to fit the speakers and luckily there is plenty of room under the the factory speaker covers for it to fit nicely, with fitting components in the rear i fitted the tweeter under the cover also, it all looks factory fitted so no nasty looking boy racer look
nice onehow do the speaker covers come off the shelf as i tried to get one off today and i near snapped it lol
Hey all! Allow me to muddy the water, I'm pretty sure I fitted 6.5 dia speakers to the front of mine... Should be noted that they are not a direct fit into the plastic speaker holders/brackets and you could probably do with making up a simple MDF surround as an ideal. I took a hacksaw to the actual speakers trimming off the offending parts of the diameter that were in the way as a 'quick fix' (cheapy speakers!).
I have not given any thought to the rears, although think that you have to attack these from underneath and ideally to do that am pretty sure that the seats come out!

I have 6x9s ready to go into the rear of mine, but i do believe they need a bit of trimming to go and i believe 6.5s that i just got from Moff
I'm not sure if the rear shelf arrangement is the same in a GTST as it is in a GTR, but I found replacing the rear speakers fairly straight forward. If its the same, you have to remove the rear seats and the rear shelf. I'm not sure if you should really remove the side trim pieces either side of the rear window, but I found that my rear shelf just came out with bit of gentle persuasion. There was also a couple of tabs, on either side, that located in slots in the shelf. You could get to them fairly easily.
In my car, the speaker grill covers were attached to the shelf and fixed from the underside so they came away with the shelf. This exposed the speakers themselves which were housed in there own, factory, plastic mountings that were bolted to the main steel frame that spans across the body. I understand that this is a structural part and shouldn't really be hacked about. I just unbolted these mountings and could then disconnect the speaker wires. The speakers can then be unbolted from the plastic mountings and the replacement speakers can be fitted. I think most modern speakers are multi holed for universal fitting, and it was not a problem to remount the ones I'd bought.
They were 6.5 Focal 165 CVX units as I stated in my recent install thread. Very happy with them. I think higher rated ones are available as well.
My install................and no danger of bleeding ears
One of the speaker chassis spars did foul the steel frame by about 5-10mm in one small area only, but a careful beating of the local area eased the hole enough to let the unit drop into place. Then just a matter of putting every thing back and the job was done.
As I said not sure if it's the same for all 33's, but that's how I did it.
When I spoke to the shop that I got my equipment from, they said that 6x9's really need a custom built shelf and, in there opinion, were more trouble than they were worth, considering the quality 6.5's that are available. They had recently done a rear shelf 6x9 install in a Skyline so they new what they were talking about.
As I said just an opinion. All depends, I suppose, on what you want from an Install.
If this helps anyone at all it has been worth all the typing.![]()

Mine was all fitted into the factory plastic housing after a little bit of tweeking, to get the rear speaker covers off, you have to remove the parcel shelf as they are screwed on from underneath, so, seats out etc just to gain access and remove the parcel shelf, if i remember rightly i even removed the C piller trims so i didnt damage the shelf it's self.
Hope this helps![]()
