    Aircon removal ...worth the effort?

How easy is it to remove the aircon from an R33 GTS-T?
Would there any performance benefit say 1-2 bhp?
Is it just a case of removing the belt?
Any help would be great cheers

the condenser sits infront of the rad so it will aid cooling if removed, and the pump, bracket, pipes, condenser & dryer probably weigh 25kg

it does also load the engine when the compressor cuts in - if you remove it and the viscos fan(change to electric) you could gain about 10bhp.

i've removed mine and boxed all the bits up so that it could be put back on if it was ever wanted in the future - mind the plastic pipe clips on the chassis rail thou they get very brittle.

i run a 14" kenlowe flush mounted on the rad(kenlowe have been about years!) - it was fitted on the inside between the engine and rad running 2 speeds slow for air con and fast for engine - now i've shelved the air con i'm going to be running it on the front just with the high speed.

no pics at the moment, engines on its way out!!

if you look at the engine photo's i've already posted you can see the top of the fan, its black and about 2" deep

Just looking at the car ....the condenser has an electric fan on it couldnt this be used instead of the viscous one with an inline temperature switch?

you'd probably remember better than i would

i can't see removing the standard fan and going electric would make that much difference in power TBH

i worked on the titanic fitting the fans!

you might be right i'm not saying there's any definate gain figures, but not turning the air con pump and the fan must help - fuel consumption is higher with the air con switched on! - maybe a viscos fan is a lower load!
