    Question Wiring expert needed...

Sorry for this being long winded but i have tried to include every detail...

A few weeks ago i drove my R32 GTR to my new workshop and started to do little jobs that needed doing. One of these was to remove the exhaust temp gauge as it hasnt been working since i brought the car. I removed all the trim and behind the centre console was a bird nest of wires, so i labelled them up and unplugged them, removed the exhaust temp gauge and put it back together...

I then put the key in the ignition put it to the on postion and pressed the unlock key which then removed the immobiliser and fired it up, started first time with no problems and then i made sure all the gauges worked (temps went up ect) and was all ok. I then turned off the car and the timer counted down and turned off...

I then turned the red isolation key to off and started to put everything back together, once i had all the trim back into place i then turned the isolator on and the turbo timer (a Greddy model, the blue one, same as the profec B type) went onto blue screen with the display on then it goes off with 'off' on the screen, goes red and then repeats after about 10secs, with the alarm clicking from the main alarm box after the turbo timer sequence (I have a hornet maxx 1 fitted) it keeps doing this and none of the key fob keys do anything...

When i turn the ignition key to the on postion the clicking stops and the turbo timer goes off also but the fob buttons do not work and the car will not start?!

I have checked all the wiring and the only wires off the turbo timer with no visable connections are the safety circuit ones (checked the earth and is fine) (brown being handbrake and purple being speedometer are disconnected) Purple and brown are said to be optional in the wiring diagram from GReddy...

I have also tried jumper cables on the battery to ensure the battery (pair of) are not knackered and dash and headlights are really bright so the battery is fine, i have also checked every fuse and they are all ok...

Does anyone know or have a clue what can be causing this as it is driving me mental!!!

sounds to me like you have an insulation brake down in either one of the connector plugs or you have somehow managed to put the tip of a screw into a wire just enough to connect two circuits the only option is to trace the wires with a voltmeter and it's a right pain in the arse and go over your cables with a fine tooth comb

cheers mate yep ive started that process, im labeling up things as i unplug them with masking tape so i know what the hell they all are as most of the unused loom is there to as i no longer have any stereo, air con ect....

only update is now the turbo timer no longer comes on at all and the alarm box clicks constantly when the power is on (even with no keys in) but when i unplug the turbo timer from the wiring harness the clicking gets slightly louder and faster so could all this be due to a buggered turbo timer and extremly unlucky timing?

it's sound like you have a stuck relay within the alarm module i've had a look at the system and they have a limited lifetime warranty

Was the alarm professionally installed ? if so give the installer a call or if not take ti out and send it to the manufacturer and get it serviced ir if your not bothered about the warranty side of life take the cover off and apply power as you should then be able to see exactly what's making the clicking sound.

well checked every wiring loom, unplugged all the added ones and untangled it all. completly removed the turbo timer harness and plugged it back as factory. now the clicking on the alarm is constant while power is on and alarms led doesnt light up (flashed before when armed) clicks on off position on key but stops when on acc or on position... opened up the alarm and its a relay in the centre that is clicking constantly...not sure what to check next as my electrical abilitys are non existant Click here to enlarge

    Any ideas?

There's three connectors going into the alarm, and the centre one is the only one that makes the relay click, after tracing it back it seems that its only for the ignition as the loom from this connector goes directly into the back of the ignition barrel....
