Doesnt have to be the nearest garage but it has to be "reasonable" having a pre booked mot can be a defence but you could still end up in court , it would be for the judge to deem whether it was reasonable or not

Like you say if you use this "loophole" to drive a car long distance you may have to explain why you drove past all these other mot stations on the way.
    Now drives an Evo 6

    what VOSA say

You can drive your vehicle to and from a pre-arranged test at an MOT test station as long as you have adequate insurance cover in place for the use of that vehicle.

This is also for vehicles being driven to and from a pre-arranged test at a Vehicle Inspection Check (VIC) test station, an approved weight testing station and reduced pollution test.
no mention of distance, i used to drive most of the cars i imported back from Southampton Docks to a pre booked MOT, with a quick check over and make sure tyres were ok and legal. i was stopped on several occasions, i always had my insurance document with me and paperwork for the car as no numberplate's were displayed either

1 officer was convinced i was committing an offence and gave me a ticket, 1 letter later the ticket was quashed

I think it depends on the area you live in, the car you drive and the way you drive. I gave the officer a reason to tug me and for that i can not fault him.
My partner got tugged when driving my escort for no other reason than for the fact that it was a guy driving a car owned by a girl, he was insured on it...but it goes to show that they are vigilant... id like to tink if my car was stolen it would be noticed more if a guy was driving it.

Once my cars all legititimate i dont think it will draw attention to itself...its standard looking and quiet as a mouse.. i think a prius sounds more aggressive hehe

no like i said the officer was really nice, i explained it had failed the mot and was taking it to SPA as theyre specialist and i wanted my car looked over and repaired properly. He said i dont blame you and was very pleasant.

he did however say well i hope no-one pulls you over again.., as i asked if it was ok for me to drive it from SPA to my retest.

Is nice to have a polite police officer, when i crashed my ignis the police officer was really nasty.

I reckon I should be expecting a few unwelcome stops then but hopefully not too many! I will get fed up if it's just coz of the way my car looks though!

Beanie, I've never been stopped in the 2 years I've owned my skyline.
I think you need to be more concerned about the 'others'. The boy racer plebs who will try to entice you to race simply because it's a skyline. There's one on virtually every trip

Thanks for the advanced warning! I won't be rising to the bait from any boy racer, I'm happy with the knowledge that I could easily leave them standing and make them look more ridiculous than they already do! Hahaha!
