Wow it's been over 6 months, the joys of only having a stock car So my car's passed it's 2nd MOT all fine, but I need to do my shocks.

I can get the part from Nissan for that OEM loveliness but I am paying a premium, I don't mind to keep within my stock remit so that's good. Is anyone in/around Hampshire or surrounding counties around to help me attach them? My target for this year is to do more of my own spannering so starting off with something simple like the rear shocks would be good. Beer/petrol money is available for anyone that can!

Insurance was fine also, 50 down from last year and I'm now with A-plan underwritten by Zenith. Unfortunately Sky just couldn't match it so they lost out this time.

In other news I was rushing out the garage and s****ed the front again, I'm so pissed at myself for doing it and therefore the saving has begun. My local bodyshop is going to have a few jobs to go round and tidy up the Skyline and then I'm thinking of getting it detailed. Does anyone have any recommendations in the Hampshire area's?

Will make sure I attend more shows/meets this year too

Shocks fitted, guys commented on the workmanship of the parts as I bought genuine Nissan parts (+40 vs pattern) but is so worth it. They said they'd been finished really well which made me curious what other cars were using them given that they have been superseded twice now from the original part numbers.

Anyway a guy on facebook helpfully checked the part number for me on the Nissan Fast thing and it turns out that they are only linked for the S14 and R33's It seems odd that Nissan UK has a stockpile of these parts because when I ordered them they arrived at the dealership the next day!!!

Wonder if I can contact Nissan and see what else they'd have lying around for me to poach and put on my OEM Skyline Or maybe I shouldn't because then they will realise and put them in a skip or on a boat back to Japan!!

Going to try and get the bodywork finished this year but not sure when that's going to happen now

Also, does anyone know any good detailers in Hampshire and any good rolling road guys? I wanted to put my car on the rollers and see how close to the original Nissan figures my car is now that 25 years and 100k km's have passed under it's wheels.

Hmmm update time, found a great bodyshop near me called Mike Prichard Motors. Let me have a look at his work and I'll be sending the Skyline in on the 9th July for a much needed tidy up. He's not sure he can do anything about the rust spots though as paint matching would be so hard to do (20 years later KH3 does not look like it did in 1993) but will see.

Issue now is that it's going up for sale once the bodywork is done and the car is looking better, unfortunately life is moving on and I can't afford to keep the Skyline, or if I did it would become my daily transport and everytime I find a blemish on the paintwork from some careless oxygen thief it just makes me so mad

Will be a shame as I've loved every mile I've done in it, it's also proven to me just how good these cars are in all their forms and I always wonder why anyone ever bothered making any other cars afterwards. I mean why both having something utterly pointless from Luton instead of a Skyline it's ridiculous.

My next car will probably be Japanese again as having something well engineered after my 5 previous European cars has shown me how much I value quality workmanship and engineering over soft touch plastics. So that rules out anything cobbled together in Swindon and Sunderland

Final point, what do people think it's worth? Defo seems to split opinions whenever I ask people, strangely as much as she doesn't like it because its "expensive", my wife is giving it the highest value so far lol

It's really upsetting to be honest, the Skyline is my dream car and I don't want to part with it. But I just don't earn enough to keep it locked up and fresh looking like it deserves and if I can't do that then I defo can't afford a 3rd car Probably pick up a Lexus IS300... going to swap the badges for a Toyota Altezza set (anything visible), then I'll put a RS200 kit on it, finally get the engine swapped for the 2JZ-GTE VVTi in the Aristo so I don't have to **** around with the dash and the gearbox as I would if I dropped a manual 2JZ in there.

And there she goes, I've owned my Skyline for 3 years and 7 months it is sold. As it's not down to choice it's the most heart wrenching experiences I've had letting go of a car. It's been the best ownership experience ever in my relatively short but fun driving time. I will say one thing to anyone who comes across this, if you have the opportunity to own or drive a Skyline of any grade, do it, don't stop and think just do it, there is nothing more suited to having weekend fun than a Skyline. For those who don't have a Skyline all they will do is stare as those signature lights disappear into the distance.
For me the Skyline is the pinnacle of automotive engineering that was so far ahead of time I can't believe that any other manufacturers really bothered. If you complain about the rust then by all means check under a E34 5 and tell me it doesn't suffer the same.

Thanks to everyone on here for the support and banter, it's been great and I've enjoyed being here and at the shows, I'll still come to them but unfortunately now as a guest Happy motoring to you all

It is, but the only one that would work is the V35 and I’m not sure that would be any good compared to my lovely R33. Also I’m now totally addicted to the shape R33, best Skyline ever to me

Tom the v35 is a great skyline it works better as a skyline to use every day don't rust as much as your old r bodys easy to get parts for. I went from a r32 to the m35 stagea which is based on the v35

Hi Alan, no doubt you’re right but I can get more power from a Toyota and I fancy a change. I had a quick look and the V35/V36’s are like over 60bhp down and not much lighter that what I’m looking at. The PV36’s which match the power however I personally can’t get past the looks, the only contender really is the CKV36 which would blow what I’m looking at out of the water but is unfortunately out of my budget
